സാധനം കയ്യില്‍ ഉണ്ടൊ?

Saadhanam Kayyil Undo?
साधनम कय्यिल उण्डो?
Did you bring the stuff?

Such is the power of malayalam comedy that whenever I'm at an airport waiting for somebody I start thinking this. The reason is that back in the day there was a hilarious malayalam film called "Nadodikkaatu" (The wind that runs through the land) where the protagonists - Mohanlal and Sreenivasan for those in the know - end up in Madras airport dressed in Arab clothes. They think that they are in Dubai and they have to exchange suitcases with someone. How they are to recognise the person is by the code - saadhanam kayyil undo (have you brought the stuff?). The correct answer is "saadhanam kayyil undu," which means 'yes, I have.' So these guys are running around the airport shouting, "Did you bring the stuff," to no one in particular. It's so funny that whenever I'm meeting a malayali at an airport I inevitably ask them "Saadhanam kayyil undo?"

Another funny thing that comes to me at airports is Choik... (ചോതിക്ക്). This means "ask" in malayalam... and it comes again from back in the day when I and a bunch of other kiddos were running around some airport and had to ask a random person a question. Nobody wanted to do it so we started telling each other to choik... in a bid to outpatience each other.

One thing that keeps coming to me at airports which I refuse to say out loud is Shadayaim... this comes from the coupling episode where Jeffrey runs around the El Al counter yelling "Shadayaim" and gets locked up in a mental institution... he thinks that he is yelling somebody's name but due to an unfortunate set of circumstances he is actually yelling "Breasts" in Hebrew. That episode was hilarious!

ha ha ha .. I luv this movie. I remember Lal and Srinivasan roaming out there in the airport uttering "സാധനം കയ്യില്‍ ഉണ്ടൊ". I bet this duo raised the level of comedy during the 80s-90s and have made us laugh , laugh and just laugh. It was an era where they co-starred in so many gud comedy movies ;-)

Yodha, Akkare Akkare Akkare and so many others to remember.

ചിരിച്ച് ചിരിച്ച് മണ്ണ് കപ്പി ഹൊ ;-)

aah..there were some wonderful movies in the 80's and 90's when mohanlal and sreenivasan were in full flow..
sadly they havent touched those heights since.

which also reminds of the video club we used to have in lusaka :)
and..by the way...i believe the 'sadhanam kayyil undo" line was Akkare Akkare Akkare and not in nadodikattu... they are supposed to meet nedumudi venu in an airport in America using that line

What Mohanlal and Srinivasan is to you, Kamal Haasan and Vivek is to us tamilians. I still think there have been some great comedies of-late, atleast in Tamil. :-)

Hi.. "Saadhanm Kaiylundo" is not from Nadodikkattu.. its only in "Akkare Akkare Akkare".. Its when they go to USA and, not in Madras..
